Alice Gerrard is one of the most important old-time and bluegrass musicians performing today. She is a prolific songwriter and a keeper of traditional tunes in her adopted home in the Piedmont of North Carolina. She learned her craft directly from friends and mentors that include Elizabeth Cotten, Tommy Jarrell, Fred Cockerham, Luther Davis and Doc Boggs.
In honor of Alice’s 90th Birthday, PineCone hosts a performance on Saturday, July 13 at the AJ Fletcher Theater with Alice, backed up by the band she used on her new record Sun to Sun. The critically acclaimed new album is her first in nearly a decade. On its release Alice said of the project, “In the dark of the night I think sometimes about how this might be my final recording, my final mattress, my final car, my final dog—but then you never know….”
